When I run across someone who says they don’t care for chocolate, and there is the rare person that doesn’t, it boggles my mind. My life is enriched by chocolate. I thank God for chocolate. So what does the blue frog have to do with chocolate? Well, there’s a chocolate shop in New Orleans called the Blue Frog. Unfortunately I missed visiting this haven on the occasion I was staying in the French Quarter. It won’t happen again!
The Blue Frog has been “Selected by Gambit readers as the ‘Best Candy Shop in New Orleans’ for 4 consecutive years,” according to their website. Reading further into the Blue Frog website one runs across this tidbit:
“Aztec legend holds that chocolate, the “food of the gods,” was hidden from human beings inside cocoa pod beans by the sun god, Nanahuatzin. Mankind owes our knowledge of the divine dish to Xocolati, the god of delight. Xocolati appeared to humans as a blue frog and sang his distinctively delightful song from the bitter waters of the great pond, giving pleasure to the hot tropical nights.”
So next time you’re in the Big Easy, send some chocolate gifts my way from the Blue Frog! You can order online as well.
